Mondo works in areas of the world where people face extraordinary challenges and there are no simple answers.   We work with our partner organisations to ensure that communities can access quality education and earn enough to live healthy and fulfilling lives.

In Nepal

Over 90% of the schools in the Helambu area were damaged or destroyed by the 2015 earthquakes. Mondo responded by providing emergency support to people in the worst hit area and then started rebuilding schools.  We are now focused on improving the quality of education through teacher training and support, including international volunteering.  Sunita, one of our newly trained teachers writes:

Students of my school have to overcome tremendous challenges like extreme poverty, an inadequate amount of nutritious food, and lack of good clothes. They even struggle to manage study materials like text books, exercise books, school uniform and stationery. Most of them have to walk uphill and downhill for more than two hours every day to get to a classroom. For me, working in this school is an opportunity to create the best learning environment so that they can feel they are learning something new in every lesson and then gain energy to overcome all the challenges they face in their daily life and come back to school tomorrow again with the same enthusiasm to study.

In Tanzania

We work with HIV positive women living in poverty.  We provide start up grants and training for them so that they can open a small business, for example running a road side café, breeding chickens or tailoring.  The income from their business allows them to provide better food for their family, keep their children in school and improve their own health.  Support from project staff and from each other, raises their morale and self-confidence.  As one of our beneficiaries explained:

Before this grant I was waiting to die. Now I have this café, I have something to work for. I can see the future.
