Atlantic City: LGBT+

Bet you didn’t know that back in the ‘50s, Atlantic City, NJ was a major destination for gay and lesbian visitors, before Key West and Provincetown.

Long before Stonewall and the first Gay Pride marches there was a prominent LGBT presence in AC.

In fact it’s thanks to the crowds of gay fans that the campy, fun Miss America “Show Us Your Shoes”

Parade began decades ago and is still one of the most popular annual parades on the Boardwalk.

Casinos, resorts, hotels, spas, restaurants and nightclubs extend a warm invitation to LGBT visitors. Atlantic City’s current mayor, Don Guardian, is gay, so the welcome is from the leadership too!

We're sprinting into the weekend...

This morning in our last session of Weekday Wellness for the week, we were joined by  athlete and Olympian Marilyn Okoro! Watch the video below to find out about her training programme, what got her into athletics to begin with, and what’s happening with her Tokyo 2020 +1 plans!

Join us for future Weekday Wellness session, hosted by our Wellness Ambassador Jenny Tomei to help with your fitness and nutrition goals and questions! Sessions are hosted via zoom every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8am to 8:45am.

These sessions are free, but we ask that you make a donation to The Mintridge Foundation to help support their mission to assist young people of all ages, abilities and physical capabilities to develop confidence and resilience, and creates awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport. A GOOD DIET CAN BE YUMMY TOO!

How is exercise linked to good gut health? Studies have shown that exercise has a number of benefits which contribute towards our gut health. It is also linked to an increased number of beneficial microbial species.

Low intensity exercise can also help to relieve constipation and improve GI transit.

Yoga also has a positive effect on the gut-brain-axis, which is essential for our digestion, and has been shown to help improve our mental and emotional wellbeing.

Fitness fear? If you’re experiencing gut issues make sure you are looking forward to your workouts and not dreading them, as stress will exacerbate a GI problems!

Nutrition recap

How to optimise your gut health and digestion. Trillions of bacteria live in your GI tract! They are responsible for many different things including digestion, immune modulation, hormones, and many more!

Remember 70% of immune system is in your gut, so it’s important to feed and nourish all the good bacteria within our guts with pre-biotic rich foods and fermented foods.

What we pre-biotics? They are a type of carbohydrate found mostly in fibre-rich fruits, they are a type of fibre that. Stimulates the good bacteria within our guts.

Keep it in mind
Eat mindfully, by chewing your food slowly

Be consistent
Keep consistent with your diet and try to eliminate snacking. Try to avoid low calorie diets, as these can cause a drop in metabolism, which means you’ll find it harder to lose weight.

Atlantic City: Wellbeing By the Ocean

Where it all started

The beach is where it all started; pristine sand with healthy salt air and a developer who saw the promise it held. Now Atlantic City is one of the world’s favourite beach destinations. The beach differentiates itself from other gambling locales

During the summer, the beaches are guarded by the country’s first lifeguard organisation and the water is safe. visitors stroll, ride a bicycle, a tour the boardwalk on a distinctive rolling chair

The first permanent boardwalk was built in 1870 as a way to keep sand off of hotel carpets. Today, the boardwalk is more than 5 miles in length and 60 bet across at it’s widest point.
