About Action Tutoring

Action Tutoring works in partnerships with schools to provide trained volunteer tutors who support pupils to increase their maths or English subject knowledge, confidence and study skills. Pupils and tutors meet weekly, either at a local partner school or through an online classroom, to work through specially designed Action Tutoring resources to build knowledge, enabling pupils to open opportunities both academically and within the working world. Their vision is a world in which no child’s life chances are limited by their socio-economic background.

Why support Action Tutoring

Education in this country isn’t fair. Pre-pandemic disadvantaged pupils were, on average, 18 months behind their peers by the end of secondary school, with the Government estimating it would take until 2070 to close the attainment gap. Since the pandemic and subsequent school closures, evidence shows that pupils living in ‘persistent poverty’ (i.e. on Free School Meals for more than 80% of their school life) are now, on average, over 22 months behind their peers.

Tutoring is proven to support pupils to catch up and achieve. In 2020-21 Action Tutoring’s GCSE pupils outperformed the national average for disadvantaged pupils in their maths and English GCSEs, with 81% of our pupils achieving a Grade 4 or above in English, and 80% achieving a Grade 4 or above in maths.

Explore their mission, vision and volunteering at www.actiontutoring.org.uk. Action Tutoring is an official Tuition Partner of the National Tutoring Programme, through which they aim to support over 7,000 pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to recover their education and achieve in the academic year 2022-23. You can help these children and young people open opportunities and achieve by booking a holiday through Charitable Travel and stating you want to support Action Tutoring
