Our Mission
Home-Start is a family support charity, helping families with young children deal with whatever life throws at them. Starting in the home, our approach is as individual as the people we are helping. No judgement, it’s just compassionate, confidential help and expert support. Home-Start volunteers don’t just support parents to cope, but to feel confident to thrive in creating the best possible start for their children.
Home-Start is reaching over 44,000 children and 22,000 families in the UK. We help families who are close to breaking point because of isolation, bereavement, illness, mental health issues, financial insecurity and more. Those precious early years of a child’s life lay the foundations of virtually every aspect of human development – affecting how healthy and happy we are, our life chances and even how long we live. Without a stable, loving and nurturing environment, a young child is more likely to experience poor educational achievement, low self-esteem and limited employment prospects.
How We Help
Our local community network of trained volunteers and expert support help families with young children through their challenging times. We provide one-to-one support for parents and children. Our volunteers visit the family in their own home every week, for as long as they need, and support parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children.
Home-Start also provides a range of home and community-based services for families tailored to their individual needs and circumstances, helping families cope with wide ranging and complex needs including financial insecurity, homelessness, debt, domestic violence, stress, family breakdown and neglect.
