About Us

The House of St Barnabas is a social enterprise and charity that works to support people affected by homelessness back into long-term employment. Located in a Grade I listed Georgian townhouse the House has been a part of Soho since 1846. It is a unique charity and a members’ club’; a social enterprise with all profit being used to fund our charitable work. Barnabas’ mission is to break the cycle of homelessness and our vision is of a future where lasting good work, a secure home and a supportive network are a reality for everyone.

Why do we need your help

Westminster has the highest rate of people sleeping rough in the UK the fourth highest levels of homeless households in the entire UK. Homelessness and unemployment go hand-in-hand and if you don’t have a home, it is incredibly difficult to find and retain a job; recent data shows that 78% of homeless people are also jobless. The longer a person remains homeless and unemployed the harder it gets for them to get back on their feet. Nevertheless, even those with the accommodation often find it hard to make ends meet, especially with soaring inflation and the cost-of-living crisis. That is why our work is so important.

How do we deliver our impact

We deliver our impact through an award-winning Employment Academy and a holistic Employment Preparation Programme for people affected by homelessness. Employment Preparation Programme is an on-site employment and skills training for people who have experienced homelessness. This is followed by one year of progression support to enable sustained change and impact including mentoring, housing support and in-work progression.
