The LATA Foundation was set up in 2007 by the Latin American Travel Association, with the aim of giving back to the continent through social and environmental projects that truly make a difference to the lives of Latin American people. Our ambition is to help transform lives and empower local communities through education and practical skills training and by supporting vital healthcare and conservation initiatives. Since its formation, the charity has contributed more than £470,000 to a range of social, humanitarian, conservation and environmental causes.
The LATA Foundation is completely volunteer led and every single penny goes directly to our local projects in Latin America.
In 2021, the LATA Foundation is supporting eleven projects focusing on conservation, poverty relief, education and community development, across Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Panama and Guatemala, as well as making one-off contributions to other important causes. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is having a significant impact on the projects that we support in Latin America. Over the past year, many of our projects have had to change their focus to be able to provide more practical assistance to those most in need. Working directly with our local project partners, we can respond to these requests quickly and have set up an emergency Covid-19 appeal to raise urgent additional funds.
To date we have supported 13 projects throughout Latin America in a variety of ways:
- Providing food parcels for vulnerable families in Costa Rica, Peru, Ecuador and Brazil
- Distributing PPE and first aid kits to healthcare workers in Venezuela, Guatemala and Colombia
- Financing training programmes for female entrepreneurs in Nicaragua and Panama
- Facilitating access to online education for children in Costa Rica, Ecuador and Peru
