Midlands Air Ambulance Charity started in 1991 and since then, we have undertaken over 70,000 missions via one of our three air ambulances, or two critical care cars, making our organisation one of the busiest pre-hospital air ambulance-led services in the UK.
Our mission is to provide our patients with outstanding pre-hospital care and lifesaving intervention at the incident scene, before conveying them to the most appropriate hospital for their individual needs, giving them the best possible chance of survival and recovery.
As a service, we cover six counties within the Midlands, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, the West Midlands and Worcestershire. With a population of over 6 million people and a busy motorway network bringing more people to the region, this constitutes the largest air ambulance operating patch within the UK.
We operate our three helicopters from strategically located airbases, RAF Cosford in Shropshire, Tatenhill airfield in Staffordshire and Strensham Services in Worcestershire. In addition, we operate three critical care cars. These are the central critical care cars, which serve the Birmingham and the Black Country area, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. This means the average travel time to the patient by aircraft or critical care car is just ten minutes.
Collectively we attend up to 12 patients every single day, responding to some of the most traumatic incidents including cardiac arrests, road traffic collisions and sports injuries. The aircraft reaches remote locations to attend to patients unreachable by land ambulance.
