Railway Children works in East Africa and India, where children living at risk on the streets is such a common problem it has become normalised, and in the UK where they have a partnership with British Transport Police to support children found in danger on the rail network. Wherever they work, the approach is the same.

They make sure the child is safe and that their immediate needs are met – whether that is food, shelter or medical care. Then they work with each child to find out why they are putting themselves at such risk and help change their situation so that they don’t face that danger again. Whether that means reuniting broken families, strengthening family relationships, engaging with education, supporting income generation, offering training or advising on parenting – it all takes time and the charity will work with each child and their family until they know they are safe and will stay safe for good.
