What's the Tourism Gold Standard Programme?

Traveller safety is a top priority for Belize. The Gold Standard Recognition Program seeks to enhance the health and safety standards of Belize’s tourism product. It also aims to instill confidence in tourism employees and travelers of the cleanliness and safety of Belize’s accommodations, restaurants, and tour operators, while ensuring minimal impact on the guest experience. To achieve Gold Standard certification, properties must appoint a program manager to implement and monitor protocols, ensure enhanced cleaning and sanitization programs, ensure clear and consistent communication with employees and guests, and implement training programs for all employees. Gold Standard certified entities can be identified via the Gold Standard seal.

What is the Tourism Safe Corridor?

A five-phased reopening plan has been established for Belize’s tourism industry; Phase 3 launched on October 1 when the country re-opened its international airport for leisure travel.  A Tourism Safe Corridor has been established which is comprised of all Gold Standard certified hotels, restaurants, tour operator, tourism sites and attractions, and certified gift shops, and approved transportation such as car rentals and taxis.  These Gold Standard and certified entities have all been trained and have implemented enhanced health and safety measures.  Belize encourages its visitors to travel within the corridor as all entities have undergone training and have implemented enhanced health and safety measures to protect guests.   Through these reimagined protocols, visitors can breathe easy while making life-long memories discovering the wonders Belize has to offer.
