A year-round scuba diving destination, Grenada and Carriacou offer some of the best diving in the region. There are more than fifty dive sites within a short boat ride of the shore, providing an opportunity to explore an amazing biodiversity of colourful marine life and pristine coral reefs in varied topography. With more than 20 wreck dives, Grenada has graciously accepted the title of “Wreck Capital of the Caribbean” with its most famous being the Bianca C shipwreck.

Grenada’s Underwater Sculpture Park, the first of its kind in the world, was created by Jason deCaires Taylor as a sustainable environment project for corals and marine life to inhabit.  The Underwater Sculpture Park can be experienced by diving, snorkelling and from a glass bottom boat.

Widely known as the “Spice of the Caribbean”, the destination has long been famous for its production of high-quality spices and cocoa. Fully embracing the identity of “Spice”, the integration of spices into Grenada’s cuisine has resulted in an overall robust and flavorful national food profile. From fine dining to casual beachside restaurants to street food, it is undeniable that Grenadians have a taste and flair for delicious food. and, as a result, became the World Food Travel Association’s first Culinary Capital.

Three Islands; one unique destination

Easily accessible by sea and air, Grenada’s sister islands Carriacou and Petite Martinique are a true escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life! Carriacou is the old-time Caribbean that dreams are made of, full of colourful houses and even more colourful people. Expect spectacular snorkelling and pristine beaches, rich West African and Scottish culture, and unique traditions such as string band music, big drum dancing, wooden boat building and launching, and Shakespeare Mas. Sustainability is central to Grenada’s value set as a destination, and this is the thread that weaves through many of our experiences. In 2022, the Grenada Tourism Authority launched its Voluntourism programme, an initiative that helps travellers foster meaningful connections in the spaces they visit. Voluntourism opportunities include coral reef restoration, turtle research, lionfish hunts and beach clean-ups, and community learn-to-swim classes. There is also an annual Dive & Conservation Festival focused on local aquatic and terrestrial conservation efforts.

The GSPCA’s mission is to provide love, care, and support to canine companions that have found themselves in challenging situations. As a volunteer, you will have the unique opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of these four-legged friends. Beyond the rewarding work with the dogs, you will have ample opportunities to explore Grenada’s breathtaking landscapes, savour local delicacies, and connect with the warm-hearted community that supports this mission.

Areas of assistance include:

Canine Enrichment: Spend quality time with rescue dogs, engaging in playtime, gentle walks, and stimulating activities that promote physical and mental well-being. Your love and attention will help socialize the dogs, increasing their chances of finding forever homes.

Veterinary Support: Under the guidance of our skilled veterinarians, you will learn about basic health checks, grooming, and administering medications, ensuring the dogs receive the best care possible during their stay.

Training and Rehabilitation: Participate in positive reinforcement training sessions, where you’ll help dogs learn basic commands and overcome any behavioural challenges they might have developed due to past experiences.

Shelter Maintenance: A clean and comfortable environment is crucial for the well-being of the furry residents. You’ll assist in keeping their living spaces tidy, creating a safe haven for them while they wait for their forever families.

Nestled within the enchanting landscapes of Grenada, the Annandale Waterfall Garden Community Project is a collaborative effort between passionate locals, dedicated volunteers, and eco-conscious organizations. This initiative aims to create a sustainable and thriving garden oasis around the magnificent Annandale Waterfall, while simultaneously empowering the neighbouring community through the financial empowerment of a neighbouring educational institution, communication learning and improved livelihoods.

Grenada, known for its stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters, however these beaches face the global challenge of marine debris and plastic pollution. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to be part of the solution and contribute to the conservation of this ecological treasure.

Each day begins with meaningful action; Armed with gloves, trash bags, and a sense of purpose, you’ll head to the beach, where you’ll be greeted by the breathtaking sight of sun-kissed sands and turquoise waters.

As the sun rises, you’ll embark on the beach cleanup mission, walking along the shoreline to collect plastic debris, discarded fishing gear, and other waste that threatens the marine ecosystem. The beauty of this volunteer experience lies not only in the impact you’ll make but also in the connections forged with fellow volunteers, locals, and the environment.

Throughout the cleanup, local marine experts will share their knowledge about the importance of marine conservation, the impact of plastic pollution on marine life, and the steps being taken to protect Grenada’s natural treasures.

The Mangrove Planting Project is a collaborative effort between passionate volunteers like yourself and local conservation organizations committed to safeguarding Carriacou’s natural wonders.

During your stay, you’ll embark on a series of enriching activities, including:

Mangrove Nursery Care: Begin your journey by nurturing young mangrove saplings in a specialized nursery. Learn about the different mangrove species native to the area and the crucial role they play in protecting coastlines, providing shelter for marine life, and mitigating climate change.

Mangrove Reforestation: Venture into the heart of Carriacou’s coastal areas and estuaries, where you’ll plant the mangrove saplings you helped cultivate. Get your hands dirty as you carefully transplant these young trees into their natural habitats, contributing directly to the island’s environmental restoration.
