Enjoy planning your next adventure and as always, have a good trip!
The inspiration for goodtripclothing® was the result of a trip to the incredible country that is Japan. Having spent a few weeks exploring this fascinating place, I was in Tokyo at the end of my trip looking for a souvenir t-shirt with a subtle “Japan” design to wear back in the UK. The options available however were made up of large garish logos printed onto what felt like very cheap material – which wasn’t exactly what I had in mind…
If I can’t find something in the destination itself, I then have a look at what clothing there is online. This unfortunately does bring a bit of an ethical minefield to navigate; not knowing where or how it has been manufactured – not to mention what the actual quality of it will be like when it arrives.
Another problem when buying souvenir clothing online is the fact that I would always prefer to buy from a local person, directly supporting the community in that specific country. I do always feel somewhat in debt to the local people who are often so welcoming and who make a significant contribution to the overall experience I have in different destinations around the world.
The sustainability of the garment is another challenge I kept coming up against when buying locally. After purchasing a t-shirt from a street market in a place like Thailand, I would find that when returning home these staple items of my travel wardrobe were quickly demoted to the pyjama drawer after a handful of washes.
So that became the mission; create premium quality clothing that would last countless washes, with subtle designs inspired by destinations around the world, benefiting local communities in the process!
goodtripclothing® was born.
I teamed up with leading suppliers in premium quality organic clothing materials, manufactured using only the highest grade ethical and sustainable practices ensuring that all workers involved in the production process are paid a fair living wage. I then partnered with expert embroidery and printing companies in the UK to help bring to life simple and understated designs that I myself would want to wear.
Giving back is something we love doing and is our small way of supporting people in need in the places we are fortunate enough to be able to visit and experience. I committed a percentage of my business to support local communities that have had an impact on me personally whilst travelling, these include the New Dream of Cambodian Children Organisation, Blue Dragon in Vietnam and WeCare Worldwide in Sri Lanka.
We are thrilled to be partnering with Charitable Travel Fund and will be donating 1% of all our 2023 marketplace sales across our products on goodtrip.co.uk to this great cause. This is as well as another 1% to our chosen charities that need help more urgently throughout the year.
