Home to 83 miles of shoreline, 150 streams and more than 300 lakes, Marquette County is the perfect place for an exploration on the water. Paddle down winding cedar-lined rivers and through serene inland lakes, while you listen to the soothing sounds of nature. Kayak along the beautiful shoreline of Lake Superior, the world’s largest freshwater lake, and pass by red sandstone cliffs and ancient volcanic rock formations. At the end of the day, catch a sunset on the water and soak in the beautiful orange glow that shimmers in the waves.

From fresh lake-caught whitefish to a classic and hearty miner pasty, there are plenty of flavourful options to suit your taste buds. Autumn

There’s nothing quite like fall in the Upper Peninsula. As the air gets crisp and autumn arrives, Marquette County becomes a sea of vibrant red, orange and yellow. Drive down long forested roads or enjoy the spectacular fall foliage from stunning scenic overlooks such as Thomas Rock in Big Bay, just 30 minutes north of Marquette. Take in the fall views by bike as you ride through picturesque Marquette County on the Iron Ore Heritage Trail, learning about the fascinating mining history of the Iron Range from informational trail signs and historic markers along the way. 

When it’s time to warm up from the cool autumn temperatures, check out one of the many charming local coffee shops for a cosy drink and sweet treat. Campfire Coffee, located on the west end of the county in downtown Negaunee, is the perfect spot to delight in those tranquil fall vibes.
