The Bahamas archipelago is an ecological oasis sprinkled over 100,000 square miles of ocean, starting just 50 miles off the coast of Florida. Social distancing comes easy across the 16 main islands, and the clearest water on the planet with a visibility of over 200 feet, makes exploration of the world’s third largest fringing barrier reef an absolute delight.

In recent years, The Bahamas have perhaps been best known for those highly Instagram-able swimming pigs in The Exumas, reached by local excursions and powerboat or flight from Nassau.

Year-round good weather is a huge attraction and for a taste of Bahamian hospitality, it’s hard to beat taking advantage of the free People-to-People programme.  Experience Bahamian life hosted by a local ambassador in their own home or at a tea party and island fashion show at Government House.  Or take a food and culture walking tour of Nassau to discover a myriad of local dishes and the country’s history.

No trip to The Bahamas is truly complete without visiting at least one of the other islands, or Out Islands as they are known, where social distancing is easy. Mile after mile of pink, white and golden beaches offer space to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of these quiet island havens. Taking a boat out, with or without a crew, to experience the incredible turquoise of the ocean and finding a beach all to yourself, is guaranteed to lift the spirits.   A popular day trip is the ferry to the pink sands of Harbour Island.

British Airways flies non-stop from London Heathrow to Nassau, with local and international airlines connecting through 26 main airports across The Islands Of The Bahamas. Direct airlift is available from most major cities in the USA and Canada.
