Diverse Abilities is Dorset’s disability charity and the only organisation in the county to support both children and adults with physical and learning disabilities, as well as supporting the families and carers around them.

Providing Person-Centred Care

We do this through a range of varied services tailored to each individual’s needs including; a specialist school called Langside, two respite homes called Lily’s Place, for children, and Lawford Lodge, for young adults, an expansive Short Breaks Service including play sessions, parent support, a youth club and sibling sessions, an adults day activity hub called The Beehive, a 24/7 Supported Living Service, and an Advice Team at the end of the phone for help with legal support like Lasting Powers of Attorney, as well as assistance with benefit appeals and applications.

How You Can Get Involved

We’ve got a full calendar of events each year, with something for everyone from Gala Balls and crafting workshops to trekking, running and skydiving. Click here to check out what we’ve got coming up.

Why not volunteer with us? You could help at our events, provide assistance in our services, carry out a bit of DIY and gardening, or even come with us on our annual Christmas Treecycling collection.

Take on a personal challenge as part of the 24 Challenge. Representing the 24 hours of care our charity provides each and every single day of the year, your challenge can be anything. Perhaps you want to try and swim 24 lengths in one go, run a mile a day for 24 days, dance for 24 hours, cycle 24 miles, or do 24,000 steps in a single day, the choice is totally up to you.
