Mental and physical health and wellbeing is central to all that we aim to achieve. Working with key strategic partners, Shekinah supports people to make meaningful changes in their lives and receive specialist support to address any health issues, find and support people in a home of their own and learn new skills that could lead to employment.
Housing & Accommodation
We have a 30-bed hostel in Torquay, plus dedicated teams in Plymouth and Torbay. Following the Housing First Feasibility Study in Torbay, Shekinah and Torbay Council have formed an Alliance which started delivering a new Housing First service.
Employment
Shekinah promotes social inclusion and understands the difficulties people face in finding suitable work due to lack of experience, skills or opportunity. We provide a person-centred approach offering support to break down barriers to employment.
We aim to support people successfully gaining a job, progressing in a chosen field, preparing for further training and supporting their development for successful independent living. We can help you to find your perfect job, through our new employability course!
Health & Wellbeing
Wellbeing is a combination of a person’s physical, mental, emotional and social health factors. It is strongly linked to happiness and life satisfaction. In short, wellbeing could be described as how you feel about yourself and your life.
Our training teams in Plymouth and Torbay offer a range of wellbeing and personal development courses which aim to keep you mentally healthy as well as having on-site counsellors to support you with other needs you may have.
Restorative Justice
Provides support to people who have been affected by crime, conflict, anti-social behaviour, or harm caused by the actions of others.
Make Amends is an award-winning project of Shekinah and an Office for Police & Crime Commissioners (OPCC) commissioned service for Devon and Cornwall. The service creates opportunities for people who have been harmed to come together into communication with those who are responsible for that harm, in order to get answers to their questions and to explain the effect the incident has had on them. It gives those who accept responsibility for the harm, an insight into the real impact their actions have had on the person affected, their friends and family or the community. The process aims to help everyone move on.
Practical Training
Wherever people are, the Shekinah teams encourage individuals to visualise a future and find their purpose. Our award-winning training and employment programmes offer an opportunity to re-engage with learning in a safe, nurturing, fun and motivating environment.
As well as therapeutically-based personal development programmes, Shekinah also runs a construction skills programme in Plymouth and horticulture programme in Torbay. Our multi-skilled teams offer wrap around support throughout engagement and finding your reason for ‘being’ is at the heart of what is achieved.
