Top Five Music Festivals Around The World

Reading and Leeds Festival is happening this weekend, and as the last of the British summer music festivals kicks off, we’re starting to plan our festival travel for 2024.

Music festivals are a vibrant and exhilarating celebration of art, culture, and the universal language of music. From the pulsating beats of electronic dance music to the soulful melodies of rock and indie, these events bring people from all corners of the world together for a shared experience like no other. Here’s a rundown of five of the most captivating music festivals that have graced the global stage:

1. Coachella (California, USA)

Coachella is a two-week testament to creativity and diversity, showcases a wide range of musical genres, world class acts, awe-inspiring art installations, and iconic fashion inspiration. Held in the Coachella Valley in California every April, this iconic festival has become a cultural phenomenon that attracts music enthusiasts, influencers, celebrities, and art aficionados alike.

2. Glastonbury (Somerset, UK)

Iconic Glasto is more than just a music festival; it’s a kaleidoscope of contemporary performing arts, transformative experiences, and world-class acts. The festival takes place in June and is a pilgrimage for music lovers. Every year a portion of ticket sales to Glastonbury is donated to various charities including Oxfam, Greenpeace, WaterAid and hundreds of other worthy causes (£2m given annually in recent years), and to improving the festivals infrastructure and environmental impact.
Registration for 2024 is now open!

3. Tomorrowland (Boom, Belgium)
Prepare to be transported to a realm of enchantment at Tomorrowland. Known for its immersive stage designs and electrifying EDM lineup, this July event in Belgium is a fantasyland where music and magic intertwine. Tomorrowland takes place in the town of Boom, situated in the picturesque De Schorre recreation area, just outside of Brussels. The festival grounds are transformed into a whimsical wonderland, with each stage offering a different thematic experience. From enchanting forests to futuristic landscapes, the stages are designed to transport attendees to another world. An absolute must-visit for any EDM fan.
4. Lollapalooza (Various Locations)

Lollapalooza has evolved from a Chicago-based festival to an international phenomenon with editions in multiple cities worldwide. This festival offers a diverse array of musical genres, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

In January 2024 Lollapalooza will be taking place at the Mahalakshmi Racecourse in Mumbai, tickets are on sale now.

5. Burning Man (Nevada, USA)

Burning Man is more than just a music festival; it’s a unique and vibrant experiment in community, self-expression, art, and radical self-reliance. The event’s main principles are guided by the Ten Principles, which include concepts like radical inclusion, communal effort, gifting, and leaving no trace.

At Burning Man, participants come together to create a temporary city known as Black Rock City. This city is built from scratch in the desert and is designed to be a self-sustaining and self-reliant community. The event typically spans a week and culminates with the symbolic burning of a large wooden effigy, known as “The Man,” hence the name “Burning Man.”
