Almost a third of people (30%) will reduce charitable donations in favour of being able to afford a holiday, according to research by One Poll, conducted on our behalf.

This poll also revealed that 71% of Brits blame the current cost of living crisis for not donating more, while 23% of Brits believe holidays to be essential spending.

Moreover, 66% would donate more if it was added to the cost of something they are already buying or had more time or had admin done for them.

“The devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic means charities need our support now more than ever, but the cost-of-living crisis has resulted in people having less and less disposable income, with many making difficult financial sacrifices. Charitable Travel offers holiday-goers the opportunity to increase their giving, simply by booking a holiday."

"G — Giving back

You could book a volunteering vacation with a reputable grass-roots NGO, use a travel company with an established charitable foundation, or simply sign up for an excursion with a local indigenous guide (a tour of the original adobe settlements in New Mexico’s Rio Grande valley with the Native Americans of Taos Pueblo, perhaps, or Madidi National Park in Bolivia with the Uchupiamonas). Or, if you don’t want to devote your entire trip to an NGO’s mission, Charitable Travel is similar to a typical travel agent in the UK, except that a portion of the price of your high-end package holiday bought from this social enterprise goes to a charitable cause of your choosing. "

We’ve been featured in a report on the responsible travel market collated by the Digital Journal! Read the article to learn more about Charitable Travel and other responsible travel companies that are changing the industry and making it more sustainable. You can read the full article here.

Adventure Travel Networking has published a list of UK Travel Companies  Connected with Social Causes – and we made the cut!

"Charitable Travel, founded in April 2020, is a social enterprise and travel agency that makes a donation on behalf of every traveller. It also established the Charitable Travel Fund, which is a UK-based charity that specifically supports aid to communities that depend on tourism revenue but have minimal governmental support when that income is threatened or lost due to unexpected events like natural disasters or pandemics.

“I felt there was a place for us to create a fund and awareness of the instances as they occur, and to be able to grant aid support to communities dependent on tourism to help in immediate recovery from injury and illness, to help with deprivation and hardship, and then to help with regaining tourism income as quickly as possible," said Melissa Tilling, CEO of Charitable Travel and trustee of the Charitable Travel Fund."
